in case you haven't heard, barack obama is now the president elect. am i disappointed? eh. i kinda figured it would happen. i've been mentally preparing myself for weeks. i am at peace with it. i'll be even more at peace with it when i start getting my stimulus checks from the prez. cuz really...who i am to turn away a hand-out from the federal government? i say, let socialism ring!

but i have to admit, no matter how much i dislike obama's policies, i was completely moved by his victory. i know by now it's all been said...the historical significance, yada yada yada. but honestly, it was historic, monumental, and as the mother of a biracial child, i was proud to know americans are moving beyond the barriers of the past. i was even touched by jesse jackson's tears during obama's acceptance speech...and i have real issues with jesse jackson. but knowing the man marched with martin luther king, spent his life fighting for civil rights, and now has lived to see a black man elected to the presidency...i figure that was an amazing moment for him. so you go jesse jackson. you go.
next item of bizznezz: prop 8
wow.
wow.
well. it passed. i'm sure you've heard.
i know people who don't live in california were uber surprised at the outcome. after all, we californians are know to be a bunch of progressive hippies. but honestly, i wasn't that surprised. sure, those opposed to prop 8 made their voices heard thru a gazillion t.v. ads and the many-a-celebrity endorsement...but the ground effort in support of prop 8 was amazing. people from all denominations joined together to go door-to-door, make phone calls, and wave signs on street corners. people put countless hours into helping this proposition pass. and it worked. so awesome.
and now, while i'm giving props to the supporters of prop 8, i would like to give a special "that's what she said" shout out to my husband, who impressed me this week with his bravery and his willingness to stand up for what he believes is right.
jason attends a very (very) liberal law school, and quite a few students and faculty members are gay. over the past few weeks, there was a rather large push by a club at his school, to get people involved in voting no on prop 8. fundraisers, booths, speakers...etc. so jason, feeling the other side was not being represented, decided to host his own informational booth about prop 8.
although he knew it would be a very unpopular stance, he rallied his troops (all 5 of them) and made his position known. i was so so so proud of him. cuz i would have been scared out of my mind to sit there, across from the "no on prop 8" people, and be willing to take whatever they might dish out. oddly enough, he received a lot of compliments admiring his willingness to take a stand as controversial as it may be.
so here's to you jason: the man who doesn't like to call to place the order for pizza, but will happily stand up for his beliefs amid a sea of controversy. awesome.
i've gone on long enough peeps. but stay tuned for my next post, when i express my complete horror over the violent prop 8 protests that are going on across the state. cuz it's so awesome to beat up mormons when 52% of california voted to protect marriage.

Um...okay - so Jason is amazing! Way to go representin the Mormons out there for yes on prop 8!
We are freaking out over the whole explosion of hostility towards all of us1 Makes me wonder when they will be standing outside of our churches with their signs! Yikes!
yeah for Jason! That takes a tough pair to do that!
We had our yes on 102 signs in our front yard (102=Cali's prop 8) and every day our signs were thrown down, kicked over, burnt in the street, stolen, you name it. We couldn't figure it out. It happened every day around lunch. We figured it was either the maillady (she was excluded when we remembered she was LDS) or our neighbors when they got the mail each day. So, the day after our prop passed (yeah for Cali AND Az!!) these two lesbian women were walking by with their dogs and our kids were playing outside and heard them saying PROP 102 SUCKS!!! and we realized...HMMMM they walk right around lunch time. So yah, we think we solved THAT mystery. I just don't get it though--the mentality. I would never, no matter how much I disagreed, would destroy something on someone else's property. Wouldn't even crossed my mind.
But obviously we're dealing with some sick, hateful individuals. I'm not talking about all gay folk-just the ones defacing our temple walls and such. Cra. zi. ness.
Way to go Jason. I think your NHD experience prepared you for this. Hey and I have to say it is good to finally see Obama without any makeup and lipstick.
I was SO impressed with Jason -- really impressed. It really showed his conviction!
jesse jackson. what about oprah leaning on "mr. man" .....that was touching! hahahah.
Jason, you are so awesome!!! Really, you are! I still read my TJSL email and see all those speakers and events against Prop. 8 (put on by some extremely liberal professors - Jason you know who I am talking about). I started thinking about you and wondering what was going on at TJSL.
I am so happy to hear you put up this booth. This really made my day. Thanks for supporting the cause. I wish I could of been there. Take care!!!
Tyler
Wow, I'm totally impressed Jason! This is a "shout out" to all you California Mormons who are representing us so well (aka NOT Mrs. Steve Young). Be strong!
Props to Flex for making a stand. I haven't seen him this invigorated since they let him use the forklift at his crappy BYU job.
Looking forward to your next post. You are my political consultant. I'll say what you want me to say, dear Jaime.
very well said. and i'm as equally impressed with jason and his little booth. (i wouldn't even do the prop's call center here in az. that was too scary for me.)
i got a little teary eyed, seeing jason next to his little humble booth. your guy is awesome.
are you ok out there in crazy cali? i fear your family has been tared and feathered....
Jaime - Thanks again so much for the yummies! I am so excited to have you as my VT!!!!
go Jason! :)-
Go Jason- very brave! Did you help him with his display? It looks very nicely crafted.
